Abstract

The activity of Ti(OEt)~4~ (Et: C~2~H~5~) in combination with methylaluminoxane (MAO) in the syndiospecific polymerization of styrene was investigated concenrning the dependence on temperature, mole ratio of Al/Ti, concentrations of monomer, catalyst and MAO. Reaction products of Ti(OEt)~4~ and erythritol and sorbitol, respectively, were also used in the syndiospecific polymerization of styrene revealing that soluble Ti compounds are the active species.

Monocyclopendienyltitanium trichloride (CpTiCl 3 ) was supported on polymer carriers with different hydroxyl contents, and the supported catalysts were used for styrene polymerization. The supported catalysts exhibited high activity even at low Al/Ti ratios and increased the molecular weight of the
