Trifluoroacetyiperrhenate promotes the hydroxyl-directed syn-oxidative cyclization of trishomoallylic alcohols. The cyclization reaction is highly stereospecific and stereoselective, providing a novel and efficient synthesis of trans-2,6-disubslituted tet_rahydropyranyl alcohols.
