## Surface -enhanced Raman spectra of 2,2 -bipyridine molecules adsorbed on rough silver surfaces were obtained. The spectra are interpreted in terms of two adsorbed species, one of which closely resembles the classical [Ag(bipy) 2 ] Y complex. The spectral features of the second adsorbate indicat

✦ Synopsis
Surface-enhanced Raman scattering from 2,2 -bipyridine adsorbed on nickel is detected without roughening procedure of the surfaces. The SERS-activation is assured by depositing silver colloidal layer onto the metal with adhering ligand. The SERS spectrum closely corresponds to the Raman spectrum of the Ni(II) coordination compound.

The adsorption characteristics of phthalic acid on a silver surface were investigated by means of surfaceenhanced Raman scattering (SERS). For a reliable analysis of the SER spectrum, we also performed an ab initio vibrational wavenumber calculation. The SER spectral features dictated that the phtha
