β¦ Synopsis
Fifty-six cognitive psychotherapists at various levels of training and practical experience completed a questionnaire concerning their experience of the expectations from supervision. No significant differences between male and female therapists were found in any of the background variables taken into account. Different expectations were found to occur in relation to the level of experience. The higher the number of patients treated under supervision, the less keen the therapists seem to be that the supervisor keeps to technical issues, and the less they seem to be interested in theoretical discussions. More experienced therapists seem to be more process-orientated than less experienced ones. Sensitivity, openess, flexibility, non-directiveness, and ability to stimulate the supervisee's own resources, are among the qualities that supervisees expect in the supervisor.
