We review the current observational knowledge on the production of neutrons in association with solar flares. From a study of the observations it is shown that unique information can be obtained on the spectral properties of accelerated ions produced during the flare. Also, the abundance of 3He/H in
The generation of energetic electrons is always associated with the solar flares which occur within the sunspot groups that are highly active in emitting type I noise storms. The number of the solar flares which are associated with the distinct electron events observed at the earth tends to increase
The magnetic polarity distributions in sunspot groups which produced solar proton flares have been analyzed. It is shown that the fluid motion in sunspot groups and below may be responsible for the origin of inverted or unusual polarity distributions, since rotating motion in these spot groups is of
We have compared the monthly distribution of the total number of flares to the monthly mortality from cardiovascular and myocardial infarctions for the time period 1974-1983, and computed correlation coefficients. Periodicities of 3 and 5 months (150 days) have been found in both distributions.
From a morphological study of the evolution of six active regions, we found two types of processes for the development of magnetic shear configurations between sunspots: (A) collision of two sunspots of opposite magnetic polarities, and (B) successive emergence of twisted magnetic flux ropes. We con
