The magnetic polarity distributions in sunspot groups which produced solar proton flares have been analyzed. It is shown that the fluid motion in sunspot groups and below may be responsible for the origin of inverted or unusual polarity distributions, since rotating motion in these spot groups is of

β¦ Synopsis
We have compared the monthly distribution of the total number of flares to the monthly mortality from cardiovascular and myocardial infarctions for the time period 1974-1983, and computed correlation coefficients. Periodicities of 3 and 5 months (150 days) have been found in both distributions.

A method to determine the emission measure and hence the effective extension of solar flares is described. The conditions for the Balmer continuum to be visible in disk flares is also considered. The concept of the effective mass is introduced and it is shown that this mass is a little less than tha
