✦ Synopsis

Supercritical-gas extracts

of two lignites have been obtained; the yields were similar to those reported for mature coals. The extracts have been fractionated and many of the compounds they contain have been identified by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. The formation and yields of these compounds are discussed in terms of the structure of the parent fuels and the mechanism of extraction.

## Abstract The usefulness and ease of utilizing supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) directly coupled to capillary gas chromatography (GC) as quantitative or qualitative analytical problem‐solving tools will be demonstrated. As an alternative to conventional liquid solvent extractions, SFE present
