Using a gas diffusion technique, we have produced PbMo6Ss in the form of wires. The critical temperature of these wires is strongly dependent on the reaction conditions. Optimal conditions give a T c of 14.4 K (A Tc -~ 0.25 K). The lower limit for the critical current density at 4.2 K is 4. 104 A cm

PbM06Sg is a potential superconducting material for high magnetic field applications, but, up to now, the critical current density J c is still slightly to low to make it competitive for technical development. The Chevrel-phase compounds PbMo6S8 and Cul.8Mo6S8 have been investigated by tunneling spectroscopy. These superconductors show a very strong electron-phonon interaction expressed by 4 <--2Ao/kTc<--5. Structures in the tunneling density of states have been observed at most energies where the phonon
