In the paper the magnetic-field influence upon the Sand L components of SO2 fluorescence is studied under 3080 A excitation. The magnetic field affects both the amplitudes and the lifetimes of the two components. A model is outlined for qualitative description of the results obtained.
The room-temperature lifetimes of ring-substituted excited diphenylmethyl radicals have been shown to correlate well with the energy gap between the fluorescent lowest excited doublet and the ground state. Attempts to correlate the lifetimes with Hammett constants were unsuccessful.
