β¦ Synopsis
The fiuorescen~ hfetime, smgiet absorption de-y, and the S1 absorption spectrum of s-tetrazine have been mezsured in C6H6 solution at 300 K. Th? fluorescence was measured usin g a Duguay-Hansen hght gate and the trannent absorption was studied using a picosecond continuum generated from CC4 using a 1060 nm pulse. The spectrum was photographed with a single laser shot. The results are a new S1 spectrum peaking at 473 nm correspondmg to an allowed transtion; an S1 l&time from absorption of 424 f 75 ps; a spontaneous emission lifetime of 450 = 55 ps.

## Abstract New fluorescent tetrazines have been prepared and their electrochemistry and fluorescence efficiency evaluated. The occurrence of fluorescence as well as the wavelength were found to be strongly dependent on the substituents, which have to be electronegative heteroatoms. This has been r
