β¦ Synopsis
Recerred 2 October 1979; III fiial form 7 March 1980 locehzed charge denntres of some small molecules at theu experimental and calculated equiliirium geometries have been studred using the 6-31G and 6-31G/d basis sets. introducing polarization functions it has been found that the bond-pair cfuuge drstnbutions are "more", while the lone-pau ones are "less" locahzed at their theoretically determmed totakrtergy minima than at the correspondmg expertmental geometries.

Aspects of direct laser desorption/ionisation have been studied for three molecules, aminotriazole (positive ion), dinoterb and ioxynil (negative ion). The samples are deposited on metallic substrates, and a nitrogen laser is used for desorption/ionisation; ion yields are measured with a time-of-fli

Density functional theory was used to compute electric dipole moment derivatives along bending coordinates for the linear molecules HCN, DCN, FCN, CICN, COx, OCS, C&, N20, C2H2, CzDl and C2N2. The infrared intensities obtained in this way are in better agreement with experimental values than provide
Resonance fluorescence characterized by anomalously long radiative lifetime was observed from the skcond excited singlet state of the "isolated" 3.4 benzpyrene molecule, confkmiag theoretical predictions for strong ROR adiabatic coupling between two close lying electronic states of a large molecule.
Molecular orbital calculations of sixfold barriers in nitromethane, methyl boron difluoride, and trifluoronitromethane were performed by various HartreeαFock and electron correlation methods. In those calculations, staggered and eclipsed conformations are of primary concern. These results indicated
