✦ Synopsis
Abstract
Lithium tetrafluoroborate‐acetonitrile complexes were studied in two liquid crystals, trans,trans‐4‐n‐propyl(1,1′‐bicyclohexyl)‐4′‐carbonitrile (ZLI‐1184) and trans‐4‐pentyl‐1‐(4‐cyanophenyl)cyclohexane (S‐1114). The results indicate the formation of tetrahedral lithium‐acetonitrile complexes and the coordination of lithium from LiBF~4~ and LiClO~4~ with the cyano group of ZLI‐1184. No evidence was found to support either lithium ion complexation with S‐1114 or tetrafluoroborate ordering in any of the systems investigated.
