✦ Synopsis

The recently developed NMR SPDE espcriment is shown to provide a new and particvlnrly convenient technique fez probing ti-iz conformational dynamics of mesogcns in thermotropic liquid crystals. Measurements have been made in the nemstic and smcctic pha=s of the 4,4'di-rl-alkaxyazoxybenzenes. It is shown for the first time that the internal disorder of the alkyl end chains is intimately related to the molecular orglinization of these mesophases.
