✦ Synopsis
SO 2 spectra have been recorded with a quantum cascade laser spectrometer at 9 mm. Line positions, line strengths and self-broadening coefficients of 42 lines have been precisely determined. All these parameters have shown some discrepancies with those of the HITRAN database. Moreover several lines found in this study were not present in this database. In order to have a complete line list of transitions of SO 2 appearing into the recorded spectra, we have performed a new calculation of the n 1 band of 32 SO 2 , the n 1 þ n 2 À n 2 band of 32 SO 2 and the n 1 band of 34 SO 2 . This new calculation demonstrates a considerable improvement of the calculations of synthetic spectra of SO 2 . These new calculations improve the positions (up to 0:03 cm À1 Þ, the intensities (up to 30%) and the self-broadening coefficients (up to 100%) of the n 1 band of 32 SO 2 with respect to HITRAN database and permit to obtain a complete set of data for the n 1 þ n 2 À n 2 band of 32 SO 2 and the n 1 band of 34 SO 2 where the positions and strengths are in very good agreement with experimental data.
