The complex, bis(2,2'-bipyridine)-bis-cyanoruthenium(II), (D), forms three detectable ground-state complexes with silver(I): DAg +, D2Ag +, and DAg~ +. The first, DAg Γ·, is isolable and strongly luminescent. Both DAg +\* and the oxidized complex, DAg 2+, are stable during photochemical experiments.

## Catalytic activity of [ ( $-C5Hs) (PPh,),RuX] (X = Cl ( 1), SnF, (2) ) was investigated for the highly selective formation of methyl acetate with methanol used as the sole source. Complex 2 was found to be more catalytically active than the singlemetallic complex 1. For both complexes, the init
