โฆ Synopsis
Various dyes have been reported to exhibit fungicidal action. Of these dyes, the triphenyl m e t h a n e group seems to include those dyes most commonly used as fungicides. The present investigation was p l a n n e d to study the action of the triphenyl m e t h a n e dye, crystal violet, on the growth, respiration and nitrogen metabolism of mycelial mats of Fusa. rium culmorum with the aim of assessing the way in which this dye exerts its fungicidal action on the mycelial felts being tested.

In this experiment 24 mycelial mats were prepared in the usual way and distributed as follows: 4 samples: suspended over 100 ml basal medium to which 2 gins sucrose were added. 4 samples: suspended over 10O ml basal medium to which 2 gins sucrose 2 gins glucose were added. 4 samples: suspended ove
