Abstract

The reaction between arenesulfonylacetic acids 1, arylglyoxals 2 and isocyanides 3 affords N‐substituted 3‐aryl‐2‐arylsulfonylacetoxy‐3‐oxopropionamides 4, which are cyclized to N‐substituted 3‐aryl‐4‐arylsulfonyl‐2,5‐dihydro‐5‐oxofuran‐2‐carboxamides 6. Treatment of compounds 6 with diazomethane affords N‐substituted 3‐aryl‐4‐arylsulfonyl‐5‐methoxyfuran‐2‐carboxamides 7, a novel class of furan derivatives. magnified image
