✦ Synopsis
Diffusion coefficients of u.v. absorbing stabilizers in polypropylene can be measured by using u.v. microscopy to reveal the concentration profile of the additive in a thin polymer film over diffusion distances of as little as 50 #m. The method is more rapid than conventional methods and is illustrated by studies of a homologous series of alkyl-substituted benzophenones. Comparison with existing data shows the method to be reliable and allows some existing discrepancies to be resolved.
