✦ Synopsis

Abstract

A quinone from leaves, previously investigated by the authors, has been prepared by partial synthesis from solanesol. The latter is shown to have the empirical formula C~45~H~40~. Consequently, the quinone from leaves has the structure of a 2,3‐dimethyl‐benzoquinone with a side‐chain of 9 isoprene units.

## Abstract It is shown how the proton structure of even complicated naturally occurring molecules can be resolved by high resolution nuclear magnetic resonance. This information is used for the structural elucidation of these molecules.
