✦ Synopsis
Products obtained by an/chic polymerization of adipimide contain foreign structures derived from 6-oxo-1,1 l-andecanedioic acid, as a result of base cataiysed condensation. The decrease in adipimide units, however, is much greater than corresponds to the number of oxod/carboxyfic acid units so that there must be additional reactions consuming adipimide units. At short polymerization periods, the polymers are mostly crosslinked; the fraction of insoluble polymer decreases with increasing temperature and time of polymerization. Even at low polymerization temperatures, the content of adipimide monomer units in the polymers is below 90 per cent. Therefore, the polymerization products have to be considered as copolymers rather than as homopolymers.
