In the title compound, C 17 H 16 Br 2 N 2 , the 3,9-dibromo-2,8dimethyl analogue of Tro ¨ger's base, the diazocine bridge imparts a twist such that the aryl rings are offset with respect to one another. The dihedral angle between the two benzene rings is 97.10 (7) .

In the molecule of the title compound, C 17 H 16 Br 2 N 2 , the 4,10bromo-2,8-dimethyl analogue of Tro ¨ger's base, the two aryl rings are offset with respect to one another by virtue of the diazocine bridge. There are two crystallographically independent molecules in the unit cell and both of these
