The structural evolution of a glassy carbon is studied by analysis of the X-ray diffraction two-dimensional lines. A strong anisotropy is found in the growth of the carbon layers and in their lattice distortions. The results are correlated with the carbonization mechanism of the polymer precursor. H

Information concerning the internal structure of the layers in a glassy carbon is completed by the description of the layer stackings. This description is deduced from the X-ray 001 reflections and from the electron microscopy lattice imaging. These results are used to develop and refine a spatial s
