✦ Synopsis

The superconducting properties of Y-Ba-Cu-V-O system has been studied. It was found that upon substituation of copper by vanadium, the critical temperature decreases linearly for the whole compositional range under investigation (0.2 > x > 0.001) . X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the sturcture of these compounds changes systematicaly from orthorhombic which corresponds to oxygen difficient perovskite to tetragonal

Nb and Ta substitutions in YBa2Cu307 and related phases have been examined in an attempt to synthesise phases of formula LBa2Cu2MOs (L = rare earth, M = Nb, Ta), in which the square planar Cu I sites of the YBa2Cu307 structure are occupied by M, and complete oxygen occupancy in the basal plane of th
