Abstract

The Mg__~x~__ Ni~1−x~ Sm~0.02~Fe~1.98~O~4~ ferrites were prepared by the solid‐state reaction method and were characterized by X‐ray diffraction and magnetization measurements. A single spinel phase was obtained in all prepared samples. It was found that the lattice parameter increases and the X‐ray density decreases as the Ni^2+^ ions on the octahedral sites are replaced by the Mg^2+^ ions. The coercivity measurements indicated a decrease of internal strains in samples for x > 0.5. (© 2006 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
