✦ Synopsis
The crystal and molecular structures of methyl a-L-fucopyranoside are reported. The sugar ring has the expected 'C, conformation.
The 'H NMR spectrum at 600 MHz was fully analysed. The conformation of the pyranose ring in solution, derived from 'JHH values, was very similar to that in the crystal. All these features have been rationalised through molecular mechanics calculations.
