โฆ Synopsis
challenge for Ma's six-strong, interdisciplinary research team is to keep the mass of Pd to a minimum while retaining the metal's performance and properties. To do this, the study is concentrating on modifying ultra-thin Pd and Pd alloy films to substantially increase the flow of hydrogen, thereby reducing the cost. The research program is currently in its second phase, and is based on WPI-patented technology developed at its Center for Inorganic Membrane Studies, where Ma is director. The study complements work being done in WPI's Fuel Cell Center.
Potential applications for Ma's research study include refining hydrogen to support FCVseither producing hydrogen on-site at individual service stations or in the vehicles themselves.
