โœฆ Synopsis


In this paper the mutual effects of the chemical composition and microstructural (austenite grains, carbides and non-metallic inclusions ) characteristics of high-alloyed steels are analysed as a function of hot deformability. The investigation made use of drawn, annealed and polished AISI M2 type high-speed steels from six different countries and nine different companies. Some one hundred and twenty-eight combinations of chemical composition and microstructure have been studied, the analysis yielding some thirty thousand individual results. Subsequent advanced statistical analysis of this data has revealed important information regarding the relationship between chemical composition, microstructure and plastic deformability.
