A method to study chain branching reactions has been developed based on increasing the free-radical lifetime when approaching the self-ignition limit in the region of reaction mixture stability. The chain branching reaction of silane chlorination has been investigated by the method of pulsed photoly

โฆ Synopsis
The decomposition mechanism of SiHa('B, ) formed after IR multiple-photon dissociation of SiH., has been investigated by simultaneous acquisition of spontaneous chemiluminescence of SiHr radicals and state-selective two-photon laser-induced fluorescence spectra of the atomic silicon produced Evidence for the opening of an effkient dissociation channel leading to Si( 'D2) +H2( 'Z: ) from high vibrational levels of the SiHr( 'B,) state is presented and discussed.
