โœฆ Synopsis

Studies of disordered sputtered films of YBCO, show a multiphase transition to the super-conducting state that can extend from the temperature of liquid helium to that of liquid oxygen. We have tested the use of such thin films as bolometers in the temperature range 4K to 15K as detectors for thermally generated acoustic waves in 4He gas. In the experimental geometry, the response time of the device is typically 2~s. Temperatures determined from the acoustic velocities are compared to those from resistance thermometry. We have examined the stability of the films under thermal cycling and find some aging effects.

Behavior of ox)-gcn during the deposition process was investigated by an rf magnetron sputtering method with pure Ar gas. Although pure Ar gas was used as a sputtering gas, YIBa2CM3Ox(YBCO) films deposited in the pressure region from 0.2 to 2Pa showed superconductivity. It suggests that sufficient o

We have sputtered, from single targets, <100 nm thick epitaxial as-deposited YBCO films which have T,,'s of >90K (R=O) and J,,'s as high as 10 6 Amps/cm 2 at 91K and 10 7 Amps/cm 2 at 65K. The critical variables for achieving these values are identified.
