✦ Synopsis


It is estimated that for liquids In which the molecular reorientation is dynamically coherenf the nuclear spin relaxation rate due to spin-rotation interaction increases with temperature approximately as T"*.

Recent studies on nuclear spin relaxation show that even at temperatures well below the liquid-gas critical temperature the molecular reorientation in some liquids exhibits an inertial rather than a diffusional character [l-6].

In this note the temperature dependence of relaxation rates due to spin-rotation interaction in such liquids is examined.

!&nong the mechanisms that cause spin relaxation in &unagnetic liquids spin-rotation interaction is identified with the rather exclusive feature that the re&xation rate, (T1);A, increases with tempeiature [7-101. This arises due to the circumstance that when the reorientation is diffusional, fluctuations in the magnitude of the molecular angular velocity, Iwl, make the dominant contribution to (?'-',);A and the corresponding correlation times increase with
