โœฆ Synopsis

Ring atom hypcrfine structure hus been observed in the optically-detected ms,Pnetic resonance (ODMH) spectra of the lows: triplet states of 4,4'-difluoro-and 4,4'dibromobenzop~lenone in a single crystal host at liquid helium temperatures. An an~~lysis of this structurt! 2nd its angular dependence yields a Iowctr iimit of 0.10 for the normalized x-orbital spin density in co&i of the parfl fin: positions. These results, coperher with the demonstrated sensitivity of the zero-field splitting parameters to halosen substit~ents in rhe 4 and 4' positions, su,, "vest that it significant amount of spin density resides on the phtnyi rings in the (n,~*) state of benzophenone.

Sapphyrin (Sap) and its stable dicationic form, Sap2\* , originally prepared by Woodward and Johnson, are large porphyrin-like systems which exhibit unique chemical and photochemical properties which are directly related to the primary donor ("special pair") in primary photosynthesis. We report on t
