## Abstract Raman and infrared spectra of 3‐methylglutaric acid and its sodium salts in aqueous solution (H~2~O and D~2~O) were recorded from 4000 to 200 cm^−1^. The analysis of the polarization of the Raman lines indicated that 3‐methylglutaric acid and its disodium salts belong to the __C__~__s__
