✦ Synopsis

In this paper we show that the low-temperature specific heat of a semiconductor with very small gap (such as Hgl -,Cdx Te at x ~ 0.15) rises very rapidly ( ~ B s/2) toward saturation at 89 even at very low temperatures, in a magnetic field sufficiently intense to bring about the onset of nondegeneracy. It is suggested that, for presently attainable fields, the optimum conditions for measuring this specific heat should correspond to N -~ 1.5 • 1016 cm -3 at T = 0.5 K.
