Effects of overdischarge on characteristics of lithium ion cells were deeply studied, and experiments have been made to reveal its mechanisms. The results suggest that overdischarge may result in large swelling of cells and degradation of recharge capabilities. The mechanism can be explained as that

In principle, vanadium pentoxide can be used as an active material for positive electrodes in rechargeable lithium cells. Cyclability is possible when the discharge is limited to a value of y = 2.35 (in Li,V,O,). The cycling behaviour is comparatively good up to a discharge level of y = 1.

The progress in the development of the ambient temperature lithium-titanium disulfide rechargeable cell under development at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory is described in this paper. Originally aimed at achieving a specific energy of 100 Whkg, 'AA' cells have demonstrated 125 Wh/kg at the C/3 discha
