Abstract
A method for estimating the effect of hydrogenβbonding on gas solubilities in polar solvents is presented. Hβbonding factors, which are based on ideal gas solubilities and solubilities in water, appear to be closely related to Hβbonding factors in the simple alcohols. Similarly, Hβbonding factors in solvents containing a carbonly group or dihydroxy groups were related to those in acetone. The relation between the various Hβbonding factors can be used to estimate solubilities in these and other associated solvents.
