## Abstract The effect of solid friction between DNA molecules and gel fibres during gel electrophoresis has been studied using Brownian dynamics simulations. To investigate the effect of the topology of the polyelectrolyte chains, we have studied both linear and circular molecules. The results sho

The electrophoretic mobility of restriction fragments of lambda DNA in agarose gels declines if the field is intermittent rather than continuous, with a greater effect on the longer fragments. The changes are compatible with the assumption of two exponential relaxation processes for fielddependent c
