โฆ Synopsis
ONDA, Sada, Kobayashi and Fujine [l] have considered a problem of simultaneous absorption and reaction of two gases represented by the following scheme:
Here A and B are the two gases being absorbed and C is the liquid phase reactant. The product formed in the first reaction, S, reacts with the gas B to regenerate the reactant C. The solution to this problem given by the above authors is applicable to reactions obeying a fast general order kinetic law. The solution to the problem for the case, where the reaction between .4 and C is instantaneous has not been considered. For this case, the concentration of the liquid phase reactant C drops to zero at some point in the liquid film and this requires the problem to be considered separately. It is the purpose of this note to bring out some special features of the problem enunciated above, for the case when the reaction between A and C is instantaneous.
In the following discussion, the reactions (i) and (ii) are assumed to be irreversible and second order and it is assumed that there is no gas side resistance to the transport of A and

Approximate solutions to the problem of simultaneous absorption of two gases in a liquid accompanied by a complex chemical reaction have been presented based on the film theory. Two approximate profiles, a nonlinear exponential profile and a trigonometric profile, for the concentration of each of th
The problem of simultaneous absorption of two gases accompanied by reversible instantaneous chemical reactions is considered. Analytical equations are derived for the rates of absorption of the two gases. The solution is valid when the diffusivities of all the species are assumed to be the same. The
Film and penetration theory solutions are presented for gas absorption accompanied by a two-step chemical reaction involving a transient intermediate species. For the case of equal diffusivities, the two theories agree with each other within 6 per cent. When the intermediate species is relatively lo
Gas absorption accompanied by the parallel chemical reactions is discussed from the view-point of the film theory. The approximate solutions for the ratio @ are derived by the same method described in our previous papers and compared with the analytical or numerical solutions for several cases. The
