The structures and syntheses of prenylhydroquinone (I-), 6-hydroxy-2,2_dimethylchromene (21, and prenylquinone (3), which are natural products isolaied from the-marine col%ial tunicate Aplidium californicum, are described. Prenylhydroquinone shows in vivo activity against P388 lymphocytic leukemia (T/C=mE).Both & and 2 significantly inhibit the mutagenic effects of benzo(a)pyrene, aflatoxin B1 and ultravioiet light on Salmonella typhimurium, and may-be cancer protective agents.
