Design curves are presented for determining the elastic buckling loads of a class of simply supported rectangular plates linearly tapered in thickness in one direction and loaded in pure shear. The problem is solved by a simple straightforward numerical method involving a very small matrix.

โฆ Synopsis
A numerical analysis of the time dependent rupture of a middle-thick plate is presented in this paper. The deterioration of material properties is modelled by a symmetric second order damage tensor. The damage development and state of failure are described by a one parameter damage evolution equation and a three parameter failure criterion. The solutions are focused on the time and localisation of the first macroscopic cracks with reference to load distribution, as well as the mode of rupture front propagation to the instant of the carrying section failure.
