Design curves are presented for determining the elastic buckling loads of a class of simply supported rectangular plates linearly tapered in thickness in one direction and loaded in pure shear. The problem is solved by a simple straightforward numerical method involving a very small matrix.

β¦ Synopsis
A simple, approximating set of equations is derived for calculating the shear buckling loads of isosceles trapezoidal plates.
A numerical example is worked for a typical plate.
The result appears to be good.

## Abstract The difficulties associated with the solution of the skew plate buckling problem are described, and the work of other writers is summarized. By solving a numerical example, the relative advantages of two proposed refinements to the finite element displacement method are demonstrated: A
