This patent describes a double mechanical seal system that is particularly intended for abrasives and other harsh applications. In order to provide cooling flow circulation close to the seal faces, a series of axial grooves are machined in the shaft sleeve. The design also provides a drive or anti-rotation method that is claimed to be more resistant to wear in abrasive duties.
