β¦ Synopsis
Idnite circular gas-chromatography columns may be utilixed for separation of closely related components, requiring a very large number of plates, provided that a suitable distance is kept between consecutive peaks. A limiting practica1 distance is suggested, which dictates the number of cyclus allowed for a given cohnnn. Theoretical relationships between the width and height of the peaks and the number of cycles as a function of the number of plates of the column (no) are presented. A summary of some experimental work in the low range of na is also included.

Extracolumn band broadening in multidimensional systems utilizing flow switching is clearly undesirable. In certain cases, i.e. capillary recycle gas chromatography, the success of an experiment is contingent on the minimization of pre-and postcolumn dispersion of the peaks. Knowledge of these sourc
