We report vibrational Raman and infrared spectra for chemically separated CbO and C7e fullerenes. Thin film samples were prepared by subliming the chromatographically separated species onto appropriate substrates. The Cso Raman spectrum shows eight clear lines and two weaker ones. If CsO in fact has

β¦ Synopsis
simple and inexpensive method for the purification of gram quantities of >99.5% pure C,, and >98% pure C,, by a fractional crystallization process in carbon disulfide or o-xylene is described. This process is based on the finding that C, was enriched in the solid deposit, whereas CT0 was enriched in the mother liquor during crystallization of fuilerenes due to differential solubilities of these two fullerenes, C,, and C&, in these solvents.

## Abstract Chromatographic separation of C~60~ and C~70~ fullerenes was performed with phenylpropyl and three different methoxyphenylpropyl bonded phases in microcolumn liquid chromatography. The results indicate that the 3,4βdimethoxyphenylpropyl phase possesses the best resolving power among the
Endohedral fullerenes N@C(60) and N@C(70) were dissolved in the liquid crystal 4-methoxybenzylidene-4'-n-butylaniline (MBBA) and investigated by electron paramagnetic resonance. In both cases well resolved EPR spectra give proof for molecular orientation in the nematic mesophase. Spectral features a
