β¦ Synopsis
Semi-automatic methods are described for the routine determination of cyanide in water. Membrane diffusion and isothermal distillation are examined for the separation/ concentration of cyanide; the isothermal distillation procedure is optimized for routine use. An air-segmented flow analyzer is used to quantify cyanide. Two classical spectrophotometric methods are adapted and compared. The method based on reaction with picric acid is applicable at cyanide concentrations exceeding 1 mg 1-l. A modified Aldridge method is far better for lower concentrations. Combination of isothermal distillation with the automatic version of the Aldridge method is suitable for the determination of cyanide in waters in the concentration range 0.01-10 mg 1-l. Interference by sulphide and sulphite and their removal are described.

The procedure described for the determination of hydrogen peroxide in aqueous solution, at concentrations in the range 1-120X 10d6 mol l', is based on reduction of copper (II) ions by hydrogen peroxide in the presence of excess of 2,9-dimethyl-l,lO-phenanthroline (DMP) to form the copper (I) -DMP co
A new flow chemiluminescence method for the determination of ultra low concentrations of nitrite in water is presented. Nitrite reacts with H,02 in acid medium to form peroxynitrous acid that is subsequently detected as peroxynitrite by the chemiluminescence reaction with alkaline solution of lumino
A simple method for the determination of tract amounts of CN' and/or SCN' in water is suggested. The method is based on the prior transformation of CN' or SCN' into BrCN by treating the sample with bromine; the water sample is then analyzed by gas-solid chromatography and the BrCN is selectively det
A simple chromatographic procedure was developed for the separation and determination of theophylline and hydroxyethyltheophylline. An aliquot of diluted syrup was pipetted into a chromatographic column containing a strong anion-exchange resin, which retains theophylline and allows the hydroxyethyl
