โฆ Synopsis
This paper is concerned with the sensitivity of a linear system-quadratic type cost functional to large parameter variations in the description of the linear system. For some class of parameter variations e and some real number p, the concept of p-sensitivity is introduced: /)-sensitivity occurs ff the value of the cost functional does not increase by more than a factor of p for any change in the class e in comparison "with a nominal or errorless system. For fixed p several methods are developed which allow determination of certain error classes e for which p-sensitivity occurs. Analogous results are obtained for both the finite time problem and the infinite time problem. The special case where the linear system is optimally designed for the given cost functional is also considered. Three examples illustrating the calculations and application of the methods are presented.
