Two International Seminars on Software Engineering, in 1980 and in 1982, were held on the island of Capri in Italy. The first seminar focussed on applications of software engineering, and the second on experiences with large scale software production. Both seminars were co-organized by Systems 8 Management S.p.A. of Torino, Italy, and SRI International of Menlo Park, California, U.S.A. Each seminar provided a one week exposure to the experience, research and opinions of the internationally known workers in software technology. Topical issues were explored and a state of the art survey of basic areas of software engineering and production was provided at both seminars. Subjects covered included software specification and validation, functional programming techniques, programming environment generation, relations between language and methodology, performance management, intelllgent interface design, and psychosocial and management aspects of software production. Each contribution probed areas of current concern in the constantly changing and increasingly complex world of software technology.
We present below a roview of selected contributions presented at these two seminars.
