β¦ Synopsis
and Mahle Metal Leve S.A. Brasil
The invention relates to steel or cast iron piston rings with a coating of chromium nitride deposited by a physical vapour deposition on the sliding surface. The coating is composed of a columnar crystal structure of CrN with an oxygen content in solid solution of 0.5 to 2.5 wt%; and uniformly dispersed micro-pores of less than 10% in volume of the coating. The X-ray diffraction intensity ratio of the coating is also described.
