The absorption and emission of 4-(N,N-dimethylarnino)benzonitrile (DMABN) in a-cyclodextrine (a-CD) cavities is reported. The twisted intramolecular charge transfer emission is enhanced on complexation with a-CD. This is attributed to the reduced polarity of the CD environment.
