✦ Synopsis

The desalination process by multistage flash evaporation is characterized by appreciable process time delay.

The process characteristics are changing due to inherent and imposed factors such as fouling of brine heater and condenser tubes, change of brine recycle flow and salinity, loss of stages vacuum and change of stages non-equilibrium.

The performance of conventional PID controllers tuned for minimum IAE is checked for regulating disturbances at various plant conditions and robustness index is obtained.

Suitability of new model predictive controllers for desalination control is also discussed and compared with conventional controllers.

This paper considers robust controllability for uncertain linear descriptor systems with structured perturbations. Necessary and sufficient conditions based on the Β΅-analysis are obtained by transforming the problem into checking the nonsingularity of a class of uncertain matrices. Also a tight boun
