The abstraction of hydrogen/deuterium from CH3CH2C1, CH,CHDCl, and CH,CD,Cl by photochemically generated ground-state chlorine atoms has been investigated over the temperature range of 8-94ยฐC using methane as a competitor. Rate constant data for the following reactions have been obtained: (1) CH,C&C

โฆ Synopsis
The occurrence and magnitude of secondary kinetic isotope effects in the gas phase has been detcrmmcd for deuterium abstraction from the CD3 group in CD$ZH$l. CD$HDCI. and CD-&D&l by phorochemically generated _eroundstaxe chlorine aloms. Over the temperature range lo-94ยฐC a discernible "inverse" kinetic isotope effect is observed. Borh the prce~ponentiat factors and activation energies decrease wirh dcutcrium substitution in the vici.nJl chloromcrhyl _eoup. The opposing trends result in a net effect close to unity
